Coconut water, the clearly and naturally occuring liquid inside of immature green coconuts, has a mildly sweet and subtly nutty flavour with an slight saline quality. Pairing it with cold brew coffee or espresso is popular in Thailand, and once you try this iced coconut water americano you'll see why.

Like many of my other iced drink recipes, this iced coconut water americano is easy and comes together quickly. Simply fill a glass with ice, add coconut water, and top with espresso.

When selecting coconut water, look for varieties that are as close to 100% coconut water as possible, without added sweetening agents. I'm not against surplus sugar, but when I see it listed as a coconut water ingredient I tend to think it's a lower quality product using further ingredients to "fix" the flavour.

Coconut water americano

Designed for a 16oz glass, the quantities for this refreshing summer iced coffee may very ever so slightly due to the size of ice cubes. If there's any excess space, just top it with extra coconut water.
Servings: 1 glass

Equipment

  • 1 47cl (16oz) glass

Ingredients

  • Ice to fill a glass
  • 150 millilitres coconut water
  • 40-50 millilitres espresso in the ballpark of two shots

Instructions

  • Fill a 47cl (16oz) glass with ice (all the way to the top). Add the coconut water.
  • Brew your espresso and pour it over top.

I'm not super fussy. I'll look for brands without added sugars such as Vita. I sometimes use UFC (because it's most readily available at Asda, where I tend to shop)

Think Like a Vegan

A thoughtful read for long time vegans and nonvegans alike, this is one of the best styles of arguing for and discussing veganism I have yet to find.
